Recently I asked my wife to leave her full time job and pursue her passion of nutrition. All was good, she focused on building the foundations of her business like a website, Facebook following and Instagram account. She would spend her days writing content, planning her business and constantly researching. Little did I know that all of that research and planning would naturally lead into a world of deception.
No, this wasn’t your ordinary deception like covering up shopping addictions where you buy expensive vintage clothes and say you got them from a “used store”, “fostering” puppies until you get so attached you just have to keep them or buying a bottle of wine and having “just one glass.” This was almost unforgivable deception…it was deception on my food!
That researching and planning… it was all related to figuring out creative ways to get me to eat healthier. It’s really nice to have your food prepared for you daily, especially if its kraft dinner and hot dogs or tacos! However when your not allowed in the kitchen until it’s done you know something is up.
Over the next while I will be reviewing all the different “new” things my wife feeds me.
Chocolate Iced Cream
“Here have this iced cream for breakfast”, my wife says. “O wow! Really…iced cream, that is so nice of you”, I reply as I wipe tears away from my eyes in happiness. I thought that was great, I had no idea she secretly went out and bought iced cream without me knowing. However I didn’t realize that blending I heard the night before was actually related to the iced cream I was currently eating.
My initial thoughts: The iced cream tasted great. Just like what I would think chocolate iced cream would taste like. It had a nice brown color, rich in chocolate flavor and melted in my mouth. It was a bit hard to scoop and you have to let it melt a little to soften it up. The only catch was it was a little less creamy then I would expect from iced cream.
My wife’s response after I ate it all: “That blending you heard last night was me mixing sweet potatoes in with dark chocolate chips”
My review: It is a tasty chocolate treat that even the most picky eater would enjoy. I just recommend leaving it out a little while for it to soften up because it gets pretty hard to scoop. I give it an 9/10…lost a point for lack of openness before I ate it.

“Here I made you a beef dish for dinner after that hard workout you had”, my wife says. “O wow! I am really hungry, it had to work out a whole 6 minutes at crossfit today”, I reply knowing full well I half assed my workout and didn’t deserve such a good meal. She gave me a huge serving…filled up the plate entirely (normally she doesn’t because a serving size isn’t a large plate, so I have been told). This is when I should have thought something was up.
My Initial thoughts: It was really tasty, had a good spice to it, lots of beef and a whole bunch of other ingredients. Looks like some veggies were put in there (as expected…she’s always trying to get me to eat my veggies). Also looks like some sort of rice is put in there for some carbs to fill me up.
My wife’s response after I ate half of it: “I switched the rice for ground up cauliflower”
My review: Why is nothing ever what I think it is! Here I think I am getting a huge plate of food only to find out rice is cauliflower, iced cream is sweet potatoes. Nothing is safe! But it tasted delicious and I would definitely have it again. The way the cauliflower was cooked had a very similar texture to rice. In fact, on my own free will went out and bought the ingredients for her to make it again this week. I give it an 8/10, it tasted good but -2 for the trust issues I am now developing.

My review: I will definitely use this popcorn maker daily. It is super cool and after I make one serving I probably will be satisfied and will not over eat. She has tricked me by making snack time fun and connecting it with some of my other favorite things. Next thing you know she’s going to start carving logo’s into fruit so I am drawn to the cool feature.
I think this is just the start to an epic battle between my desire to eat McDonalds every day and my wife’s desire to see me healthy and live a long and happy life (which is also my desire…it’s just pizza, McDonald’s and Iced Capps taste so damn good). She is winning this battle and as long as she keeps feeding me delicious tricky food I don’t mind the high levels of deception.
I guess she has signed me up for this 10 day reset with her nutrition group… I wonder what kind of food I will be eating Jan 3rd. Join in the deception here.
