10 Day – Energy Reset – Aka – An emotional roller coaster
I decided for this challenge I would journal each day. Today I the start of day 6, so here's the first 5 days:
Well it’s the night before we start the challenge. For the next 3 days I have been told I am going on a “Liquid meal plan” before 7 days of “good food”. What on earth is a liquid meal plan? I wonder how well a steak tastes blended? I guess Rocky drank raw eggs and beat Apollo.
I was told I was getting “Pizza” for lunch. Now that I am familiar with her tricks I am sceptical about the authenticity of this “pizza” but I am hopeful since tomorrow she will be starving me. When I got home I saw no pizza box so she definitely made it …it tasted really good, it had awesome toppings and had a fluffy crust. “Its made out of cauliflower”, she tells me with a smile. WHY CANT ANYTHING JUST BE PIZZA?
Faux Pizza Rating – 8/10 – She looses points for a lack of pizza box and for slowly converting my perceptions of what can taste good.
Side note: It’s 10pm, I am standing over the stove cooking a box of Kraft Dinner. I know this is Kraft Dinner because I bought it myself and I am cooking it myself. The battle begins. And now that I think of it Apollo beats Rocky… I might die in 3 days.
Day 1 – The Detox
What the hell did I get myself into? I was incredibly gluttonous in my sugar, caffeine and gluten consumption the past couple weeks, today I went cold turkey on all of them. I left work at 10am scared I would say something rash to the employees and I cancelled all afternoon meetings. If you are going to do this maybe do not also try to stop EVERY addiction you have in one day.
On the bright side the snacks I had during the day helped a lot. They were solid foods like apples and salad. Those were the little ounces of hope I had through the day.
Butternut squash soup Rating – 9/10 – For a soup this is pretty tasty, however I would really like actual solid food. It does taste good, but it got an extra +2 because its not like I can compare it against a nice steak from the Keg.
Day 2 & 3
The past 2 days were way better. I negotiated a little adjustment after having a smoothie that I would accurately define as “leafy”. I didn’t blend it well and ended up chewing on my smoothie. That leafy smoothie broke me and I had no choice but to go wash it down with a coffee. Now every morning I have one coffee, it really helped keep me on track.
I didn’t actually feel too hungry over these 2 days, partially because my body is getting used to it and likely because my body has just given up now.
Blueberry Smoothie Rating – 9/10 We had 2 “green smoothies” based with leaves, 1 “green smoothie” based with avacodo and this one… of course I am going to be biased towards blue berries! It looses 1 point because it seemed to produce far less and I finished it too quickly.
Day 4 & 5
Hallelujah real food! Eggs, Turkey, Forks! Screw you spoons and straws!
My wife made our first breakfast, bless her soul. She told me we were having a turkey frittata (basically an egg dish with turkey). I was so excited to eat it…but there was a catch. Always a *bleeping* catch. The list of vegetables I actually enjoy can fit on one hand and the one she included in the frittata does not make the list…broccoli. However at this point, food is food and I am grateful. (Edited insert by Lucy- He forgot to mention that I was nice enough to leave out the mushrooms for him. Ever since his Grandmother took him to a mushroom farm as a kid-he will not touch them. I thought that was quite nice of me.)
Overall the past 2 days have been great, we had so many good meals that I would definitely eat again. However each and every meal was full of lies “Mac and cheese” that never contained cheese, “Tacos” that had lettuce shells etc. I guess there is always alternatives to the norm that can taste just as good.
Turkey Frittata Rating – 8/10 Looses 1 point for including broccoli and 1 point for taking advantage of my fragile state of wanting to eat anything. But after I ate it….I can now say that I would eat broccoli in it moving forward and be OK-and not eat around the broccoli like I normally would.
The past 5 days have been good. It was a little rough to start but that was because I was so far in a hole that I had to climb out of. I survived the first 5 days and am thankful my wife encouraged me to participate. The next 5 days will be a piece of cake. My emotions are finally in check, the meals taste good and I still have a regular morning coffee.
O and I am now 185 lbs., so I lost 12 lbs. so far.
Side note: Even though the meals taste really good I dream of the Keg and McDonald’s and its delicious food every night
